History of Us (Indigo Girls)

Indigo Girls are Amy Ray and Emily Saliers. They are a folk rock duo who started singing together in Atlanta, GA in 1981.

They were first known as The B Band and then changed their name to a more catchy name "Saliers and Ray". During their high school days they performed together in talent shows. They eventually began performing in bars in Atlanta, GA.

When Strange Fire, their first full-length record was released, they gained their little fan base.

In an interview, Amy revealed that they found the word Indigo and loved it and used this word to form "Indigo Girls" for their band name. A year later, Epic made a record deal with them. Because of the success of their independent record, Strange Fire was re-released in 1989 under Epic.

In 2005, they ended their contract with Epic with their last album, Rarities. But this didn't stop this duo from making music. They signed a deal with Hollywood Records (A Walt Disney Company label) and came out with Despite Our Difference. But the contract was short-lived and the girls went back to being independent.

They released Poseidon and the Bitter Bug under their very own label IG Recordings in March 24, 2009.

In 2010, they released Staring Down the Brilliant Dream, a 2-disc CD that celebrates their passion for live performances, a collection of 31 songs from their live performances between 2006 to 2009. Early October of the same year, they released their very first holiday album Holly Happy Days that contain 12 holiday songs that will brighten up the season.

The Indigo Girls released yet another album, Beauty Queen Sister on October 4, 2011. This is their 13th studio album released by Vanguard Records.
